Thanks for the list of shops. I find Canadian fabric online retailers all sell quilters cotton and for some bizarre reason, list their prices by the 1/2 yard/meter. No other fabric shops do this. I will never buy from someone who lists their fabrics by the 1/2 meter price. Tell me the price per meter, and let me order by 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 or full meters.
I wasn't aware of the reason for on-line fabric stores in Canada selling fabric by the 1/2 meter price, so I contacted Daryl Aitken from Fabric Spark in Ontario. This was her reply!I sell by the half yard because the e-commerce platform I use (Shopify) doesn't support partial or fractional units. That means I have to commit to unit size that people will understand and be able to compare. There are a number of shops in the US and Canada who sell by the 1/2 yard so it seemed like the most universal unit, given that selling by whole yards would be just too much and quarter yards require too much math (it was done by a competitor and it didn't work for them). It's a little boring and administrative but trust me, there's a logical reason for it. By the way, the shops selling in fractional units are either on custom platforms or they're on larger, more expensive e-commerce software platforms. I do evaluate that, but I'm not keen to increase my costs for software, I'd rather bring in more fabric. For future reference, it really isn't just Canadian shops, these are just a few of the US shops that also sell by 1/2 yards...http://www.fabricworm.com/http://www.southernfabric.com/http://www.westwoodacresfabric.com/I appreciate the chance to explain - cheers,Daryl
Thanks for including me in your list of Canadian online fabric shops! :)
Would love to hear from you!
